Re: My Insight
Hi @jus10
Welcome to the forums!
You have certainly raised an interesting topic, and have done a lot of research on it. It does seem like an area that warrants further pharmaceutical research.
Finding the right combination of meds, therapies and lifestyle factors to support recovery can be a huge, frustrating, time consuming challenge.
The brain is a mindblowingly complicated place with so many different factors, chemical and physical which vary so much from person to person that finding safe and effective treatments isn't so much like looking for a universal needle in a universal haystack, as it is playing an immensely complex and individual game of pick up sticks for each and every person. In one stack there might be some very easy to remove sticks that don't cause problems, in another it might be very hard indeed to change a single element without significant cascading repercussions let alone to reach and affect the desired element.
Everyone responds differently to conventional treatment, therapy, medication, alternative treatments etc that it is really all about finding what works best for the individual. Our definitions of what constitutes an improvement in symptoms varies as does our definition of acceptable side effects.
I am all for exploring alternatives and complimentary therapies, but will add that doing so in conjunction with your prescribing doctor or psychiatrist is the way to do it safely. Psych meds are very very complex and affect people in all kinds of ways on their own let alone in combination with other substances that may not have good standardisation.
You also mentioned that your intense workouts are contributing to being constantly sore and interrupting your sleep. As you sound like someone who makes sure they know how the body works you have probably considered this already, but are you ensuring that your body is getting sufficient recovery time, protein and nutrients to support that level of workout?
