Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Glad to hear you went for a walk. @TAB  I’m up early again as usual. I’m really a morning person. Checking emails and Facebook. Will do some Spanish lessons then physio exercises.
Waiting for it to get light so if it’s not raining I can get out in the garden again. Can’t hear any rain atm. Have a box of succulent cuttings to plant, native seeds to sow and soil wetter to apply. Ordered a raised bed yesterday for extra veggies I planted.

Hope you have a happy Sunday.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Good Morning @GezzaP  its rumored may rain here today, but they said that yesterday. It didn't.

I did German at Flinders. So being conscientious and FOM went to intro lectures for new students. All language students did Italian. It was great fun, couldnt believe number of words in English, also less letters in alphabet etc. def not awful like French in year 8, til sick teacher left and was replaced with a German woman. She even did night classes for adults. My mother went and did better than I did. It was same course. Okay she was Australian, but my father was German.

I did Linguistics in 2nd year also was a fan of language courses on tv when unemployed. I eventually got a few French and Spanish words. got the lightest of light rain here. Path outside is barely wet

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Oh you went to Flinders @TAB . Me too and that’s where I worked.
I sat in on Spanish classes while I was writing my PhD. Never studied it officially. Have a certificate of Spanish from University of Havana, Cuba and went to Spanish classes at local community classes. Yet I’m 75 percent fluent and still getting better.

Checking emails then off to do back and neck exercises. Then I’ll do some Spanish lessons.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

yes, Flinders then Adelaide after subject mix-up with submajor. No sub majors at Adelaide. sorted. I went to Germany for about 6weeks years ago, also did 4weeks at LanguageSchool in Berlin. I'm pretty rubbish now. surprises me sometimes what I can still remember though.

I got a 'good' at Intermediate 1 level. we were tested at start and at the end. I got mu student pass and train passes myself somehow, went to banks, talked to airport staff, caught buses in strange cities in the dark and rain , wondering if I was on the right bus to catch a flight lol.Went to see rels before left.Cousin was working. Ihad ants in my pants and wanted to go out (at home w 70something auntie)shewalked me to other end of village showing me the soccer club. Turns out I wasnt allowed to pay, as cousin had rung them and it was planned.

eventaullythe dugsome english person up , as lots stayed here after serving there. Anyway.I couldnt speak english.was hilarious. took a while to switch back.Iwas even starting to think in German lol  @GezzaP  pouring here now

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

@TAB About 3 weeks ago I had a dream

in Spanish.

I found that after arriving in Mexico after being in Cuba it was so clear after Cuban Spanish it was like they were speaking in English.

Sounds like your German got pretty good. Last Thursday I went to an Argentine friend’s place. We spoke Spanish. I took her a box of succulent cuttings which she loved. We walked around her wonderful garden then discussed some books in Spanish that she gave me. We had a cuppa and cake. The visit was really nice.

Ok i’m going to do some Spanish lessons now. Put heater on in the bathroom as I hate to shower in a cold bathroom.

Hope you have a nice day.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

okay travel answers the unasked question of 'Why Spanish?'

thats nice re friend. and Good on you for being conscientious with study.

I used to think about doing a Phd. I didnt quite get First Class, so no scholarship, well unless I went toTasmania or something.apparently its harder now than20 years ago as too many people rorted the system . I started an MBA that was more friends idea than mine. Was so glad when I chucked it in. was like first year undergrad level, people openly cheating and getting way higher marks that they should have.We had group tasks, where someone who was a 'fail' would get a credit as would someone who should have got DN also got a credit lol. anyhoo. @GezzaP

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

My PhD was on Cuba so they speak Spanish. @TAB  After that I specialised in teaching and researching Spanish America. Yes students were lazy. I took a redundancy package because of how corrupt universities became.

Re: Tabaluga's 2.0

Fair enough @GezzaP  Doubt if I will go back to uni. Did get copy of my Honours thesis last year as didn't order one for me way back when . Also joined library. But need to go in person to get card etc .
