To the awesome SANE cheer squad; @Former-Member @soul @Former-Member @Former-Member @Alone @Former-Member @utopia @TheVorticon @Former-Member,
This little turtle survived her first ever yoga class!!!! I did it, I did it, I did it, I did it. I am superly duperly amazingly awesome. I was so so so SO scared...and now I get to enjoy the super empowered feeling because I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I walked in, went straight up to the person at the desk and said "hello, this is my first yoga class EVER and I am super super scared." And, as it turned out, the person at the desk was the instructor and she was soooooooo nice and obviously very used to very scared people. She showed me the lockers where I could put my bag, shoes etc. during the class and I asked her if I should keep my socks on or not. She said to leave them on to go into the room and then I could take them off when we started. But guess what? I got a bit lost about when we were actually starting and somehow I kept my duck socks on for the entire class while everyone else was bare-foot. This definitely worked in my favour. I mean really, it is impossible to take yourself too seriously when you are wearing duck socks!!!!! My duck socks are now definitely part of my official yoga uniform!!!!
As an aside, I (and @CheerBear) got the socks from the mens department at Big W. They are technically mens business socks. I think I'm going to go back and buy some more pairs.
Anyway, so nothing too disasterous happened during the class. I got a bit muddled with my left and right sometimes and in a couple of places the instructor went too quickly for my brain to process the instructions, but it was all totally ok. I felt a little uncomfortable with how close the person next to me was, but I survived. It was a nice small class of about ten people, which was good.
Afterwards the instructor commented that I seem to be extremely flexible for a beginner. (A) had mentioned during our session today that the instructor probably wouldn't believe it was my first class because I am so strangely flexible. What can I say, it's a quirk. I think it is kind-of funny that physically I am more flexible than is typical, whereas cognitively I am so inflexible it is regarded as pathological.
I was a bit sad that we didn't do any standing on our head at any point. Oh well, maybe next week.
I will definitely be going back. I actually signed up for a deal whereby I can attend as many classes as I want in the first month so I MIGHT even go again before next Monday. After the class, the instructor encouraged me to try as many different classes with as many different instructors as I could, because they are all different. I smiled and nodded, but in my brain I was thinking "yeah right, I don't do change. I like you and I now expect every class to be just like tonight's one." Hmmmm I hope no-one is in "my" spot in the room next week.
I super super SUPER can't wait to hear how @CheerBear got on. I super hope you survived ok CheerBear. I am revelling in the empowered feeling now. We are SO AWESOME.
I super hope others are going to join us in this adventure. Seriously, if I can do this, ANYBODY can.

Oh @Zoe7 I am super excited to see you here on our yoga adventure thread. I super badly wanted to tell you about it but I don't like tagging people when I know they have a lot of stuff going on. You should definitely get duck socks. I still have them on. I may never take them off...

@Phoenix_Rising I have been following you and @CheerBear little turtle but thought there was enough wonderful support for you both and I would most likely 'bring down' your enthusiasm. It would be a privilege to be part of the 'duck sock crew' - I'll let you know if I find them

There are foxes and puppy dogs and monkeys too @Phoenix_Rising I need some new socks but I fear the mens will be a little big - I have very small feet lol

@Zoe7 Yes I was contemplating the dog ones. They were pretty cute. I got two other pairs with coloured spots on them. They were either $7 each or three pairs for $15. I super like the spotty ones too...but I think I really need to go back and stock up on the duck ones. Hee hee, I'm getting memories of my mum nagging me about how I couldn't keep getting new clothes that were the same as my old clothes when I was a kid. Now I am a grown up, if I want twenty pairs of identical socks, I will have them!!!!!!
