Fantastic news @Crazy_Bug_Lady, glad to hear that your dad and stepmum made it the farm!
Sounds like you had nice mellow and productive weekend: work and rest.

Happy Sunday Funday Everyone!
I hope you've all found a way to do something for yourself this weekend. Here was the highlight of my weekend
A fun activity for kids... young and old 🙂
What did everyone get up to this weekend?

We had a nice quiet recovery weekend after my daughter being ill last week... which ive found she's shared with me (cough!). But we did venture out to the library as is our Sunday routine.
The trampoline place looks awesome! I've had kids tell me about a place in Adelaide called Bounce that they've been too on their travels, next time we have a medical appt down there for my lil boy we might have to try it!

I used to show cattle when i was in high school 😄 my murray grey steer actually won grand chamion at the adelaide show one year. I loved working with black angus mostly though.
How has it been going picking out your heifer?

Out of curiousity @Crazy_Bug_Lady & @Former-Member - what do cattle get judged on?

Their are different classes - light medium and heavy weight clases then ajap class as well (japanese market).
Beef cattle get judged on their basic body structure (bones, feet, leg alignments), their body weight and size, whether they are muscled or fatty etc.
There are also handlers competitions where the handler is judged on how well they control and show their animal.
Dairy cattle are judged differently too.

Hey @NikNik, it depends... We ( @Former-Member and I) are talking beef cattle. Bulls, Cows and Heifers (breeding females and males) are judged by how they walk and stand etc, as their genetics will be passed on to future generations. They are also judged as representatives of their breeds, so they need to look and meet the breed standards.
Steers are judged in two stages: Hoof, where they are judged by their frame, and Hook, where they are judged on meat quality.
Steers are what all the schools bring, so it's quite emotional on the final day, when all the kids have to say goodbye to their steers.
