Our Peer Group Chat on Thursday 17th November 2022 will be on the topic of Navigating Toxic Positivity.
Toxic positivity is the belief that no matter how difficult or emotionally distressing a situation is, people should always remain positive. These approaches are often intended to make us feel better, but can in reality make us feel worse. In this group we'll discuss the impacts of toxic positivity, as well as how we can challenge it and respond constructively.
Within this group tonight we’ll be talking about:
For anyone unfamiliar with Peer Group Chats, each focuses on a specific topic and is guided by Peer Workers with lived experience of mental health issues and recovery, &/or caring for someone with complex mental health. A counsellor is also present to assist in ensuring a safe environment for individuals and the group. It is a space for us as peers to share our stories and experiences, and connect with those who are going through something similar.
The event start times across Australia are below:
WA: 4pm
NT: 5:30pm
SA: 6:30pm
QLD: 6pm
NSW, ACT, VIC & TAS: 7pm
This is held at daylight saving time!

This is a great topic, thank you for running it!
I have been hurt in the past by toxic positivity, but at the time I was in a severe nervous breakdown lasting 3 years, and couldn't articulate why I felt I was being damaged by it. I had never heard of toxic positivity then. I think now that awareness helps.
Thank you again for these great topics.
