Peer Group Chat // Values: A Guiding Light // Thursday 27th July 2023, 7-8:30PM AEST

Hey everyone!

On Thursday 27th of July 2023, we will be holding a Peer Group Chat on the topic of Values: A Guiding Light.

Values can be a big driving force behind our actions and the way we live our lives. Shared values with others can also lead to strong and meaningful connections. In this chat, we’ll explore what our values might be and how they might guide our actions and impact our connections.

The event start times across Australia are below:

Western Australia: 5pm
Northern Territory & South Australia: 6:30pm

Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria & Tasmania: 7pm

For anyone unfamiliar with Peer Group Chats, each focuses on a specific topic and is guided by Peer Workers with lived experience of mental health issues and recovery, &/or caring for someone with complex mental health. A counsellor is also present as a moderator to help ensure a safe environment for individuals and the group. It is a space for us as peers to share our stories and experiences, and connect with those who are going through something similar.

Anyone is welcome to join! Tagging some members who may be interested below:

You can join our Peer Group Chats every Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm (AEDT). Check out the FAQs page for more information.

We hope to see you there 😊 If you can't make it but are interested, you can always catch up reading the transcript afterwards here. We also invite you to continue the conversation below on this thread if you can't make the night but also wish to contribute some of your responses. We will post some dot point prompts on the day that can get the conversation started if you're unable to make the live event!

Thanks, @amber22 , but I don't think my values would be welcome there, so it's probably best I sit this one out.

Hi everyone,

In the course of my preparation and research for this topic, I found this video which talks about a values museum. So, my question is this- what item, representative of your values, might you share in a similar values museum/ display?

This example list of what your values might include may be helpful to consider if you're feeling a bit stuck trying to name what your values might be.

@Snowie @outlander @chibam  @tonys @Appleblossom @Captain24 @Oaktree @Jacques @Shaz51 @creative_writer

Excited and interested to hear from all of you who would like to share! Feel free to share a picture or something else (like a video link) to help illustrate if you’d like, so long as it fits within our community guidelines, particularly around anonymity 😊

As an example, the below picture is the item Queensland Australian of the Year for 2021, Dr. Dinesh Palipana shared through the Australian of the Year exhibition;

As another option based on this for anyone who'd prefer, I'm curious what values you think Dr. Dinesh’s share might indicate he holds? There's more info here on Dr. Dinesh's share in case that's useful 😊

I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts & shares! 😊
